Every tattoo at Tagz starts with a conversation, and the conversation costs nothing. Walk in off Main Street or book a time, sit down with the artist who would actually do the work, and figure the piece out together before any money changes hands. What a consult at Tagz actually looks like

You talk to the artist, not a counter person taking notes to pass along later. Bring your reference images on your phone, or a screenshot folder, or a crumpled printout, whatever you have. The artist pulls them up, asks what you like about each one, and starts separating the parts you actually want from the parts that just happened to be in the photo you saved.

Then the artist looks at the spot. In person, under shop light, on your actual skin. Photos flatten everything.

A forearm tapers almost an inch from elbow to wrist, and a design that sits square on paper has to wrap and flow on a surface that moves every time you turn your hand. AG works in black and grey realism, and grey wash reads differently on different skin tones. So part of the consult is the artist deciding how dark the wash needs to run for the piece to hold contrast after it heals.

Healed black and grey settles a shade lighter than it looks the day it goes on. An artist who plans for that at the consult saves you a touch-up appointment later.

Either way, come with reference images and wear something that lets the artist see the area. If you're asking about a cover-up or an addition to existing work, the artist needs to see the old tattoo itself, not a photo of it from two years ago.

The sizing and placement talk, honestly

The consult is where you get told the truth about your idea, and a good shop treats that as the whole point. Fine-line script that looks clean on a phone screen turns to mush at two inches wide on a wrist. Ink spreads slightly in skin over the years and lettering needs air between strokes to stay readable at year five.

Ribs and inner bicep hurt more and swell more than forearm or calf, which matters if you're planning a long first session. High-motion spots like fingers and the side of the hand shed ink and rarely heal crisp.

These two are where a free consult earns its keep, and they run longer than a standard one.

For a cover-up, the artist has to read the old piece in person. How dense the black is, whether the lines have blown out, whether any of it sits raised on the skin, how much it has faded. Tattoo ink only goes darker, never lighter, so the old tattoo sets hard limits on what the new design can be.

A faded grey outline gives the artist a lot of room. A saturated black tribal band gives almost none, and the honest answer is sometimes a few laser fading sessions before the cover-up will work.

You'll hear that at the consult rather than after a deposit. The old work also needs to be fully healed and settled before anyone tattoos over it.

Sleeve planning is a mapping session. The artist looks at how the design travels around the arm, where the focal images should sit so they're visible when your arm hangs naturally.

The line ends at the Gilbert Road and Main Street station, a little under a mile west of the shop. So the last stretch is a short rideshare hop or a straight walk east on Main.

From Gilbert, Chandler, or Tempe, take US-60 or the Loop 202 and you're at the door in twenty minutes or so. From Apache Junction it's a straight shot down Main.
