Tagz Tattoo for Gilbert

We are up in Mesa at 2735 E Main St, Suite 9, and Gilbert is a short run north. Come up Gilbert Road or Lindsay Road, the straight north-south runs out of Gilbert into Mesa, and you land on East Main near the shop.

From the Heritage District or Power Ranch it is a quick drive. From Val Vista Lakes or Morrison Ranch, come up Val Vista or Higley to Main and turn west.

East Valley is car country, so nobody thinks twice about the trip. Parking is easy and the door faces Main.

Gilbert has a real tattoo scene of its own. The Heritage District, that 0.3-square-mile grid of restaurants and murals around the color-changing Water Tower, has Fifth Estate Tattoo right on Vaughn Ave at 60 W Vaughn, with Black Lotus and Dark Horse a short way off.

So you have looked at the downtown corridor already, or you will. What people drive to us for is AG.

AG owns Tagz. He started it and put the team together. His lane is black and grey realism, and that is what most of the work here is.

He posts it on TikTok and YouTube, @agtattoos, healed and fresh both. Watch the healed stuff before you book, because a piece six months out tells you more than a photo taken while the skin is still swollen and shining.

There is a barber in the same building. Get a piece, get a fresh cut, same visit.

That is the one stop shop line you see in the reviews. It is a big shop too, several rooms, one we call The Big Room, so you can stretch out for a long back or leg session instead of working over somebody in a corner.

The lineup changes month to month. AG is the one who is always here. Over the past while you might have sat with Eddy, Cam, Alex, Steve, Priscilla, Tanner, Carlos, or Presley.

Most of what leaves this shop is black and grey realism, but we have people doing color, fine line, and traditional too. Nobody blinks at a full sleeve, a chest, a back, or legs. Because the roster rotates, call and see who is booking your style before you plan the drive up from Gilbert.

How a big piece actually goes

  1. Free consult. Sit with the artist who would do the work, not a front desk. Bring references or just the idea, and talk size, placement, and style.
  2. Stencil. The artist draws it up and pulls a stencil. You check the flow in the mirror and move it until it sits right, before anything goes in.
  3. Linework. The first session maps the outline so the piece reads as one thing instead of a stack of separate tattoos crowded together.
  4. Shading and saturation. Later sittings build the depth in passes, with healing time between, so the skin takes each pass clean.
  • Free consultationSit with the artist who would do the work. You pay nothing at the consultation.
  • Same-day walk-insWhen a chair is open, walk in off East Main and get started that day.
  • Get Tatted NOW, Pay LATERFinancing on bigger work. It is a soft pull, so it does not touch your credit score.

It takes more than one sitting for a reason. Skin only takes so much in a day. Push past that and it heals rough and the ink drops out in spots, and then you are back for touch-ups on work that should have been right the first time.

So we heal between sessions and let each pass settle. Healed work is the honest measure, not the fresh photo.

Placement changes the day too. Over bone and thin skin, the ribs, inner arm, the ditch of the elbow, hands, the back of the knee, it bites harder.

Areas with more fat under them, the outer thigh, the calf, the forearm, are an easier sit. Plenty of people go right through the sharp stretches without a break, so do not talk yourself out of a spot over it, but it is worth knowing before you pick where a piece goes.

Aftercare matters more out here than most places. Mesa and Gilbert summers run past 110. Keep a fresh piece out of direct sun and out of the pool while it settles.

A sleeve you got in June does not go to Cosmo Dog Park's swim lake next weekend. Give it the couple of weeks it needs.

Money, and how to make it work

Price depends on the piece and who does it, so call and ask for a real number. Consults do not cost anything. Bring the reference or the idea and you hear the number before you are on the hook for it.

There is a deposit to hold the appointment and it comes off what you owe. For bigger work we run Get Tatted NOW, Pay LATER. It is a soft pull, so it does not touch your credit score.

You pay it monthly or every couple of weeks. Approved means no deposit.

Same-day walk-ins when a chair is open. Free consults, so for a cover-up or a custom idea, come in and we talk placement first.

We take care of first-timers all the time, and the folks who already have both arms done keep coming back. Anything from a single-needle piece to a full sleeve, that is our day.

Hours are Sunday noon to 6, Monday through Thursday noon to 8, and Friday and Saturday noon to 10. Something that comes up again in the reviews is people who walk in tense and loosen up once the needle starts.

The shop is clean and the crew has put in the reps. That is what we want you walking out thinking.

Tattoo shop near Gilbert FAQ

Do you do piercings?
No. Tagz is a tattoo-only studio, so we don't do piercings of any kind. For piercings you'll want a dedicated piercing studio.
Do I have to be 18 to get tattooed at Tagz?
Yes. You must be 18 or older with a valid photo ID. We don't tattoo anyone under 18, even with a parent's consent.
How far is it from Gilbert?
Short. Gilbert Road or Lindsay Road straight north into Mesa, and you are on East Main by the shop. From most of Gilbert, the Heritage District, Power Ranch, Agritopia, Val Vista Lakes, it is a straightforward freeway hop. Parking is easy and the door is on Main.
Why come up to Mesa when the Heritage District has its own shops?
No knock on the downtown Gilbert shops, they are good. People come to us for AG and black and grey realism specifically. Watch @agtattoos and the healed work, and if that is the look you want, the drive is nothing.
Can I just walk in if I am driving up from Gilbert?
Yes, when a chair is open we take same-day walk-ins. For a big custom piece or a cover-up you are better off calling first, partly to book time and partly because the roster rotates month to month and you want the artist who fits your style.
How many sessions for a sleeve if I am coming from Gilbert?
More than one, and the number depends on size, detail, and how your skin takes it. Skin only holds so much ink per sitting, so we work in passes and heal between them. You will get a straight estimate at the consult once the artist sees the design.
Do you do color and fine line for Gilbert clients, or only black and grey?
Black and grey realism is the core, but there is color, fine line, and traditional in the building depending on who is booking that month. Call and we will tell you who is in and what they run.

Couldn’t say enough good things about this shop. From the environment to the artist, this shop is great. My artist was Eddy and he gave me a tattoo I’ve been waiting to get cause I needed the right person and the right Shop to do it since this piece was very important to me. It came out perfect. Couldn’t ask for a better experience.

Best tattoo shop in AZ ! The quality, style and art work is immaculate! I had the pleasure of meeting AG (owner) and his style of work is magnificent. All the artist in shop have their own style so if you looking for talent, go to TAGZ TATTOO. I also noticed AG has a barbershop on the opposite side of the building and the haircuts are very professional and stylish. I would say this tattoo/Barbershop is A1! I highly recommend getting a tattoo from AG or any of the artists in house. Be a part of the family and join AGs movements.

Finding the shop in Mesa, and what we work with

Tagz Tattoo Shop is at 2735 E Main St, Suite 9, Mesa, AZ 85213, in Maricopa County. The suite sits on the East Main corridor a short block west of Lindsay Road, with Val Vista Drive about a mile further east. The door faces Main and parking is out front.

If you are not driving, the Valley Metro light rail runs the length of Main Street and ends at the Gilbert Road station, roughly nine tenths of a mile west of the door, so the last stretch is a short ride or walk east along Main.

  • Aftercare we actually stock. Mad Rabbit foam wash, glide, soothing gel and patches are sold at the front counter, so you can walk out with the same aftercare your artist tells you to use.
  • Shop Pay. The Get Tatted Now, Pay Later plans run on Shop Pay at checkout, which is why the payment split happens on the product page rather than through a separate lender in the shop.
  • Arizona age law. A.R.S. §13-3721 is the statute that governs tattooing anyone under eighteen in this state. Tagz goes further than the statute does: eighteen and over with a valid photo ID, no exceptions.
  • Valley Metro. Route and station times for the Main Street line are on the Valley Metro maps and schedules page if you are planning the trip in from Tempe or west Mesa.
