How pricing works at Tagz

Every tattoo here is custom work, so every tattoo is priced as its own piece. There is no menu on the wall with fixed prices for stars and script, because a quote depends on what you want, where it goes, and how long it takes to do it right. What we can give you before any conversation is a clear picture of what shapes the number:

What moves a quote up or down

• Size. More skin means more hours. This is the biggest factor by far.
• Detail and style. High-detail black and grey realism takes far more time than a simple bold design at the same size, because smooth shading gets built in layers.
• Placement. Ribs, hands, necks, and other tricky spots are slower going per square inch.
• Color. No surcharge, but packing color evenly adds chair time, and time is what you are paying for.
• Session count. Sleeves, chest panels, and backs happen across multiple sittings with healing time in between, and the quote covers the whole project.
• The artist. Different artists price differently, here and at every shop. Call and ask who is booking your style.

How deposits work

Scheduled appointments are held with a deposit. It is simple and it is fair: the deposit locks your slot, the artist starts drawing for you before the session, and the full deposit amount is applied to the final cost of the tattoo.

The deposit is a portion of the cost paid up front to hold your slot, and it comes off the final total of the tattoo. The amount scales with the size of the booking, and your artist sets it when you schedule.

Deposits are non-refundable, and there is a plain reason for that. When you book a block of an artist's day, that time comes off the market and other clients get turned away. A no-show costs the artist real income and wastes design work already done.

Getting your number is free

The real quote happens once an artist has seen your reference, your placement, and your sizing. That conversation is a free consultation, it carries no obligation, and it is the fastest route to an honest figure instead of a guess. Prefer to keep it spontaneous?

Walk-ins are welcome whenever chair time is open, and smaller walk-in pieces get quoted and done the same day. We are at 2735 E Main St, Suite 9 in Mesa, open noon to 10PM every day.

How sessions are booked

Bigger pieces are booked as blocks of an artist's time, from part of a day up to full-day sittings, and larger projects are planned across several sessions. Your piece will land where your piece lands, and the honest number comes from the work in front of the artist, not a menu.

The spread between artists is normal, here and everywhere. Rates track experience, demand, and how booked a chair is, which is why the same piece can cost different amounts with different artists.

Ask who fits your budget as well as your style. The front desk does that matching every day and nobody is offended by the question.

How large projects get planned

A sleeve, a chest panel, or a back piece does not happen in one sitting. The skin needs a couple of weeks to heal between sessions, so a big project becomes a series of half-day or full-day blocks spread over weeks or months, at whatever pace your schedule and budget allow.

The consult is where that plan gets built. The artist looks at your reference and your arm, tells you roughly how many sittings the piece wants, and you book from there. Nobody here will pressure you into committing to the whole project on day one, because the plan only works if you can actually sustain it.

Walk-in pricing

Walk-in pieces get quoted on sight. You show the artist what you want and where, they give you a number before any needle comes out, and smaller pieces are usually done the same day. There is a small minimum on every tattoo, and it exists because a station gets set up and broken down for each one, and that fixed time costs the same on a twenty-minute piece as on a five-hour one.

Keeping the cost down without wrecking the piece

• Size honestly, once. Shrinking a design to save money usually costs more later, either in a rework or in a piece you stop loving. If budget is tight, a simpler design at the right size beats a detailed design at the wrong one.
• Pick placement with your artist. Easier real estate tattoos faster, and faster is cheaper. Ribs and hands are slow going.
• Consider black and grey. Packing color evenly adds chair time. A black and grey version of the same design is often the quicker sit.
• Split it into sessions. Financing exists, and so does simply booking the next sitting when you are ready for it.
• Show up healed. Sunburned or broken-out skin can push a session back, and rescheduling late risks a deposit.
