Fine Line Tattoo Cost Near Tempe: What Sets the Price

If you're in Tempe and pricing a fine line tattoo, the number depends on the piece more than the style. Here is what sets it at our Mesa shop, and how to get a real quote before you make the trip.

Fine line work is built from thin strokes pulled with small needle groupings, single liners and tight three-needle setups, usually in black or soft grey. Most pieces are small, and most take one sitting. That's why people expect a simple price list. We don't keep one. At Tagz Tattoo every tattoo is quoted as its own piece, and a fine line flower on a wrist and a fine line koi on a thigh can land a long way apart.
What we can tell you up front is where the floor sits and what pushes a quote up from there. The fine line tattoos page covers the style itself.
The floor: our $150 shop minimum
Every tattoo at the shop has a $150 minimum, and hourly work starts around $125. The minimum exists because a station gets set up and broken down for each tattoo, and that setup takes the same time on a twenty-minute piece as on a five-hour one. A tiny fine line heart still needs a clean station, a fresh stencil and new needles.
Past the minimum, the piece sets the number. The tattoo pricing page lays out how quotes and deposits work for every style.

What moves a fine line quote
| Factor | What it does to the number |
|---|---|
| Size | The biggest driver. More skin takes more time, even with thin lines. |
| Detail | More detail means more time in the chair, even at the same size. |
| Placement | Ribs, hands and other tricky spots go slower per square inch than a forearm. |
| Color | No surcharge, but packing color evenly adds chair time. |
| The artist | Rates differ by artist here, like at any shop. Ask who fits your budget as well as your style. |
One thing that surprises people: the artist may tell you to make it bigger. A design that looks perfect at postage-stamp size often needs to grow 20 to 40 percent so the lines still read years from now. That can raise the quote a little. It is still cheaper than reworking a piece that blurred.
Budget for the long run, not just the day
Thin lines carry less ink than bold ones, so fine line is the least forgiving style over time. Fingers and hands blur fastest from friction and sun, and a piece there may want a touch-up sooner.
Sunscreen is the other line item. Once the tattoo has healed, SPF on it whenever it's out in the sun is what keeps it crisp. Out here that matters more than most places: the National Weather Service counts an average of 21 days a year at 110°F or hotter in Phoenix (1991 to 2020).

Getting a real number from Tempe
There are two ways in. Walk in and an artist quotes the piece on sight, before any needle comes out, and smaller fine line work is often done the same day when a chair is open. The walk-in tattoos page explains how that goes. Or book a free consultation, sit with the artist, sort out size and placement, and leave with a quote. It costs nothing.
If you book an appointment, a deposit holds the date and the full amount comes off your final price. Deposits are non-refundable, so book once the design is settled. For bigger pieces, financing runs through Get Tatted Now, Pay Later on Shop Pay, and it's a soft pull that doesn't touch your credit score.
Call or text (480) 670-1037 before you come and ask who is booking fine line. The roster rotates month to month and not every chair takes it.

Questions to ask when you get your quote
- Is this the size you'd do it at, or should it grow?
- Is the quote for the whole piece, or by the hour?
- Is this one sitting?
- Who in the shop is doing fine line right now?
